Three little tricks for softening butter
Butter is commonly used when making bread and cakes, but it's usually hard and block-like when bought, so it must be softened before use. How do you soften butter? There are several ways to soften butter; today, the editor of Hashou Food will share three methods commonly used by baking experts.
What is butter?
Butter, also known as butterfat, is made by separating the light cream and skim milk from milk, allowing the light cream to mature, and then churning it. In terms of production process, butter can be divided into fresh butter, superfine butter, and fine butter; in terms of taste, it can be divided into plain, semi-salted, and salted butter. Butter is fragrant, delicious, mellow and sweet, and is a favorite ingredient for many people. It is rarely eaten directly and is usually used as a cooking ingredient. Butter is very nutritious, the best of dairy products, including amino acids, proteins, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, glycosphingolipids, cholesterol, etc., and is suitable for people of all ages. However, due to its high fat content, it should not be consumed excessively.
Butter Softening Methods:
1. Room Temperature Softening
The most conventional method is to leave the butter at room temperature to soften slowly. The time required for softening varies depending on the size of the butter and the room temperature. If the butter is just taken out of the freezer, it will take longer. This method may not be feasible in cold winter.
2. Microwave Heating
You can put the butter in the microwave for a few tens of seconds to quickly soften it. The time required also varies depending on the size of the butter and its temperature when taken out of the refrigerator. However, this method is difficult to control and is easily overheated. Once the butter melts into a liquid state, it must be put in the refrigerator to re-solidify before use. However, you can heat it in a few seconds at a time and check the softening degree of the butter at any time.
3. Water Bath Heating
Heat the butter in a water bath until it is completely melted, then put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes to re-solidify into a solid, but very soft state, before taking it out for use. This method takes a short time, but it is also difficult to control. If you accidentally freeze it for too long, then all your efforts will be wasted. Note that butter cannot be melted directly over a fire; it must be melted in a water bath.
