1921-2021 | A Century of Struggle, A Time of Flourishing!

Abstract

Staying true to our original aspirations | forging ahead

Celebrating the CCP's Centennial

Studying Party history is to remember our original aspirations. From 1921 to 2021, spanning a century, our Party has grown from over 50 CCP members to the world's largest ruling party with over 90 million members, from a small red boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing to the giant ship "China" sailing through the waves. A century of history, a journey through storms and winds. We read and study Party history, drawing strength and inheriting the original aspirations from the heroic martyrs.

Things You Didn't Know

As successors to socialism, we should have a deep understanding of the country's historical development and the connotations of these commemorative anniversaries. However, with the development of society, we are more likely to forget the history that is increasingly distant from us. On July 1st, the founding anniversary of the Party, a day worth commemorating, let's deepen our understanding of the matters related to the founding anniversary of the Party.

Origin of the Founding Anniversary of the CCP

#Origin

During the War of Resistance Against Japan, due to difficult circumstances, the exact date of the "First National Congress" could not be recorded. Therefore, in 1941, the Party Central Committee decided to hold the "Fourth National Congress" and set the first day of July 1921 as the Party's birthday and anniversary.

The Congress adopted the Party Constitution, elected Chen Duxiu as the General Secretary, and announced the founding of the Communist Party of China. From then on, a completely new type of unified workers' party emerged in China, with communism as its goal and Marxism-Leninism as its guide. The birth of the Communist Party of China opened up a new era in the development of Chinese history and brought about a complete transformation of the Chinese revolution.

The CCP Flag

The Communist Manifesto

Authors: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels

The Manifesto systematically expounded the theory of scientific socialism for the first time, pointing out that the communist movement will become an irresistible historical trend.

If you already know all of the above,

Then you definitely don't know what's coming next.

Founding Anniversary of the CCP

Do you know the origin of the name "Communist Party of China"?

In August 1920, Chen Duxiu initiated the establishment of the first early organization of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai. In an article titled "My Views on the Current Situation" published in Xin Qingnian on September 1, 1920, Chen Duxiu referred to "our party" as the "Socialist Party," later changing it to "Communist Party."

Cai Hesen was the first to propose the name "Communist Party of China." On August 13 and September 16, 1920, while studying in France, he wrote two letters to Mao Zedong, discussing the Communist Party issue in detail and proposing: "First, we must organize a party—the Communist Party, because it is the initiator, propagandist, vanguard, and combat unit of the revolutionary movement."

Based on his investigation of communist parties in various Western European countries, especially the Russian Communist Party, he proposed specific steps for party building, including "openly and formally establishing a Communist Party of China."

Before and after this, Chen Duxiu in Shanghai, Li Dazhao and Zhang Shenfu in Beijing also discussed the name of the party through letters, and decided to adopt "Communist Party" as the name of the Chinese proletarian party.

Do you know the Party's organizational system?

The Communist Party of China has a very strict organizational system. From the perspective of Party organization, it can be divided into three parts: the central organization, local organizations, and grassroots organizations.

Party Central Organization

This is the familiar National Congress of the Party held every five years. It is the highest organ of power within the Party, electing the Central Committee and the Discipline Inspection Commission. The Central Committee elects the Standing Committee of the Central Committee, the Politburo, and the General Secretary of the Central Committee.

Party Local Organizations

These are the congresses of Party members in various provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. They elect the Party committees and Discipline Inspection Commissions at the same level. Following the same procedure as the central level, the Party committees elect the local standing committees, secretaries, deputy secretaries, etc., which are then submitted to the Party Central Committee for approval.

Party Grassroots Organizations

These are the Party branches and Party general branches that can be found everywhere in enterprises, government agencies, and schools. According to the Party Constitution, as long as there are three or more formal Party members, it is necessary to establish a grassroots Party organization. The leadership of Party branches and Party general branches is also elected and then submitted to the higher-level Party organization for approval.
