How to quickly tell if your oven is up to par

Abstract

In the eyes of most people, household mechanical ovens have uneven temperature fields, unstable temperatures, and poor heat preservation performance. They are basically synonymous with unprofessionalism. Some people also say that since it's for home use, it's not professional after all, so the requirements don't have to be that high. However, there are many skilled people among the general public. Many baking enthusiasts and hobbyists, while striving to improve their skills, still hope to have a baking tool as an assistant.

In most people's eyes, household mechanical ovens have uneven temperature fields, unstable temperatures, and poor heat preservation performance. They are basically synonymous with unprofessionalism. Some people say that since it's for home use, it's not professional after all, so the requirements don't have to be that high. However, there are many skilled people among the general public. Many baking enthusiasts and hobbyists, while striving to improve their skills, still hope to have a baking tool as an assistant. Therefore, the editor has diligently searched for some international brands of household ovens. Although they are for home use, their professionalism is excellent. However, the price is also excellent, enough to make most people whose baking is just a hobby and a way to spice up their lives give up on them.

In fact, whether an oven is professional or not does not depend on whether it is mechanical or electronic, but mainly on several important indicators. When buying an oven, as long as these indicators are excellent or relatively good, then you can basically use it to make beautiful food. Of course, the premise is that you have the skills.

Without further ado, let's get to the point. Two major factors can tell you if your oven is professional enough:

  1. Temperature Stability

Note that the editor is referring to temperature stability here, not accuracy. Friends who have used mechanical ovens all have the experience that what is most frustrating is not the inaccuracy of the temperature, because mechanical ovens have a temperature error of ten or even several tens of degrees. After using it a few times, you can basically master it and adjust it according to your needs during use. What is really troublesome is the instability of the temperature. The temperature is higher in winter and lower in summer, and the temperature is different in the morning and afternoon, and it is also affected by whether the air conditioner is turned on or off. When baking cakes at the same temperature, sometimes they are burnt, and sometimes they are not cooked.

In oven design, there are two things that have a decisive impact on temperature stability: one is the temperature sensing element, and the other is the oven's heat preservation performance.

Although mechanical ovens do not yet have temperature probes that extend into the oven cavity like electronic ovens, some ovens have begun to try to further connect the temperature sensing element, which was originally only connected to the temperature knob, to the oven body. The advantage of this is that it can quickly, directly, and accurately sense the actual temperature of the oven body, avoiding incorrect temperature adjustment by the temperature controller due to receiving incorrect temperature information.

Excellent heat preservation performance, while locking in the oven temperature, can also maximize the blocking of the influence of external temperature on the internal temperature of the oven, ensuring the stability of the oven temperature.

  2. Evenness of the Temperature Field

You finally managed to squeeze out cookies that look like cookies, and the biscuits were cut so evenly this time, but when they came out of the oven, they were light and dark like a cat's face. One biscuit, some were overbaked, and some were not cooked. Have you ever had such a painful experience? Many people will find that food often shows uneven light and dark colors, especially in the middle and near the door, the contrast is very large. Don't blame your lack of skill, maybe it's because your oven's temperature field is not even enough.

There are also two important factors that affect the evenness of the oven's temperature field:

One is the heating tube. High-quality M-shaped heating tubes can ensure stable temperature rise during heating, and the larger heating area helps heat energy to circulate faster, ensuring that the oven temperature field quickly reaches a balanced state.

Another important factor is the oven's heat preservation performance. The oven's heat preservation performance is mentioned again, which shows how important it is. In fact, more and more ovens now use double-layer glass doors to enhance the oven's heat preservation performance and reduce the situation where the food inside the oven is almost burnt, but the end near the oven door is not yet cooked.

Since heat preservation performance is so important, many discerning oven brands have begun to work on improving the oven's heat preservation performance. In addition to the increasingly popular double-layer glass doors, double-layer oven body designs have also appeared in some oven brands. Recently, the editor has also discovered ovens with added thermal insulation cotton on the top, further improving heat preservation performance.
